Getting Around the Fairplex
The Fairplex is one of the gemstones of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. Since the early 1920's, this has been a major gathering place for the LA region. Today, it is a spectacular multi purpose complex that is home to multiple year round events, including the annual LA County Fair. Trade shows, concerts, outdoor recreation, fine accommodations, racetracks, sculptures, are some of the highlights of this grand venue.
With so many constant visitors, the Fairplex has a well-planned transportation system around it. The complex actually lies about 30 miles east of central Los Angeles. It is located along Mckinley Avenue in Pomona, one of the finest communities in the outskirts of Los Angeles.
The dominant form of transportation near Fairplex is by car, which is not surprising considering the huge vehicle traffic in California. The complex is conveniently located between Interstate 10 and Interstate 210. Other local roads drivers should be aware of include White Avenue and Arrow Highway. Once arriving, visitors can park their cars in one of the 30,000 parking spaces on the grounds.
There is excellent rail transportation service near Fairplex, which is provided by Metrolink. The Pomona North Station and Pomona Downtown Station are both located only a few blocks away from the Fariplex. The Pomona North Station is located along the San Bernardino Line, while the Downtown Station is served by the Riverside Line. Both lines provide direct service to LA Union Station. The train ride from both of the stations to the heart of Los Angeles takes just under an hour. Visitors should be aware that the Riverside Line does not operate on weekends, while the San Bernardino Line is active 7 days a week.
Fairplex is also served by local bus transportation that is provided by Foothill Transit. Bus 197 stops right along Mckinley Avenue. Bus 699 also stops nearby at the Fairplex Park and ride lot. Route 197 operates locally between Pomona and Claremont. Route 699 is a longer route that runs between downtown Los Angeles and Montclair. There are also other Foothill Transit bus routes that pass through downtown Pomona, but they may not be within comfortable walking distance.
